Cerec Technology - crowns in 1 visit
Cerec is a revolutionary system that enables us to design, fabricate and fit a new crown, veneer, onlay or inlay in a single visit, a procedure that would normally take at least two visits, if not more!
How does CEREC technology work?
Your dentist will prepare your tooth in the normal way he/she would before fitting a crown or veneer. At this point, instead of using 'dental putty' to take an impression of your tooth, a digital image is taken using a special camera. This image is then converted into a 3D computerised model of your tooth, which is used as a guide to design your new restoration. Once your dentist is happy with the newly designed tooth, this data is sent to an onsite milling machine, which makes your new tooth from a high-quality ceramic block. The milling process takes 15-20 minutes depending on the complexity of the tooth.
The ceramic blocks come in a wide variety of shades and colours, and your tooth will be selected to match your surrounding teeth. Once the crown or veneer has been milled and polished, we will bond it into place onto your prepared tooth. This makes your tooth as strong as it was before it was ever filled. We can often make an onlay or inlay instead of a full crown and thereby we can remove less from your own tooth and avoid an unsightly grey finish line at the gum.
Cerec gives an excellent result in most situations, however caution must be exercised in people who clench or grind their teeth excessively. In some aesthetically challenging situations we still prefer to work with a skilled dental technician to get the best result. Metal or gold based restorations still have to be manufactured using traditional impression techniques. The current cost of a Cerec restoration is £420 for private patients, £140 for Denplan care patients. Denplan essentials patients qualify for a 10% reduction in the private fee.
